Welcome to the Sudbury Trans and Non-Binary Group
The Sudbury Trans and Non-Binary Group is an inclusive and welcoming space for trans, non-binary folks and those who are questioning their identity in and around Sudbury, Suffolk, UK. We also welcome the partners, parents, family members or friends/allies joining on behalf of, or with a trans person. Our aim is simple: to help build community, share useful information, and create opportunities for people to meet and make friends.
Being trans or non-binary can sometimes feel isolating, especially if you don’t know many others who share similar experiences and it can be difficult to find or connect with others, so this group exists to help those from the area around Sudbury feel less alone. Whether you’re looking for conversation, community support, practical information, or simply a friendly place to connect with others, you are very welcome here. You don’t have to have everything worked out, you don’t need to be out, and you can present however you want or however you are most comfortable.
Please bear in mind that we are not professionals and the Sudbury Trans and Non-Binary Group is not a formal support service, we’re just members of the community who care about each other and want to help create a positive, supportive space for trans and non-binary people. If you need specific help we urge you to speak to the relevant qualified professional or support service as we are a peer support community rather than trained specialists.
The group currently operates through a Facebook group and a WhatsApp community, and we organise a monthly in-person meetup. To help keep everyone safe and comfortable, the details of our meetings aren’t shared publicly, only within the group. We’re also very aware that going to a meet up for the first time and meeting other trans and non-binary people is really tricky so if you’d like to attend and we can help anyway, or meet beforehand, do send us an email.

For the safety of group members, when joining the Facebook group you must answer the following questions:
Do you live in or around Sudbury, South Suffolk or North Essex, or have links, tenuous or strong, to this area? Folks from further afield are welcome, but remember this group is centred on Sudbury.
Do you identify as Trans and/or Non-Binary? Whilst we love allies, this group is intended for trans, non-binary people or folks questioning their identities. We also welcome partners, parents or allies who are joining on behalf of a trans person.
Do you promise to respect the privacy of all members, not out any member, and respect the identity of all members?
Group rules
Do not share the identities of group members.
Being part of this group requires mutual trust and not everyone in this group will feel safe enough to share their trans or non binary identities with the world. This is a safe space to build community locally with similar people, so respect the privacy of others! Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What’s shared in the group should stay in the group. This is vital.
Be kind and courteous
We’re all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let’s treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required. On the whole this group is for building community, so there should be no need for arguing.
No hate speech or bullying.
Make sure that everyone feels safe. All identities should be respected. Bullying of any kind isn’t allowed, and degrading comments about things such as race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.
